François Morellet (1926–2016), a self-taught artist, was one of the leading figures of postwar geometric abstraction and a pioneer of minimal art. His paintings, sculptures, and installations are grounded in rules, systems, and constraints, stripped of overt expressiveness while still allowing room for chance, and infused with a distinctive sense of humor. Erik Verhagen brings together seven artists from both sides of the Atlantic, who offer their perspectives on Morellet’s work, bearing witness to the enduring vitality of his legacy.
